Headway Software Releases Structure101 for Java Version 3

Date: October 16th 2007, Waterford, Ireland

The world's first complete software architectural control solution

Headway Software today announced the general availability of Structure101 for Java Version 3. This major upgrade introduces the unique ability to define your software architecture in terms of simple to understand block or "brickwall" diagrams. Structure101 Architecture Diagrams, and their associated architecture rules, are published to a central repository where they are visible to the whole development team, via free IDE plugins and the free structure101 web application. Developers using the structure101 IDE plugin are warned if they add or change the code in a way that is inconsistent with the defined architecture, while those responsible can subscribe to an RSS Feed that flags when code that defies the defined architecture is published.

"I love the new architecture diagrams. With them we are able to define our architecture standards and enforce them during design and construction. As a Chief Architect who is responsible for overall design and system architecture, this capability is a great value-added to an already fantastic product," Joong Lee, Chief Architect, EPL, the leading Credit Union Solutions Provider.

"Where Version 2 focussed on understanding how your code is structured today, and where and why it is tangled or overly-complex," said Headway’s CEO, Chris Chedgey, "Version 3 takes it to the next step, letting architects define how the code should be structured and communicating this to the team so they can actually make it happen."

"We are very impressed with the latest release of Structure101. It has allowed us to improve the quality of the architecture reviews we do for our clients, but most importantly for them and us we have been able to achieve this in a shorter time frame," said Alef Arendsen, Vice-president, Interface21.

Structure101 Version 3 adds:

  1. A new Architecture perspective in the structure101 client automatically creates architecture diagrams direct from the code, lets you edit these interactively, and map architectural elements to the physical code.
  2. New structure101 Eclipse and IntelliJ plug-ins make the project architecture diagrams visible to each developer and warns them if they make inconsistent code changes.
  3. The updated structure101 web application makes the architecture diagrams visible in a web browser, and provides RSS alerts when new violations make it into the project mainline.

A free trial of structure101 for Java Version 3 can be downloaded from http://www.headwaysoftware.com/downloads.

A new online demo highlights the outstanding new capabilites of structure101 for Java and is available for viewing or download from http://www.headwaysoftware.com/products/structure101/demos/v3-overview.html.

Structure101 client and publisher are available for Java on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X and priced at $499 and $999 per node respectively. Structure101 IDE plug-ins and web application are free.
